NAPO WDC Professional Development Day
Monday, February 17, 2025, 9:30 am - 3 pm
Mason Square (George Mason's Arlington Campus), Room 111
Agenda
Acting on Digital Hygiene, Security and Decluttering
9:30 am - Noon
In fall 2024, Heather Nickerson, NAPO WDC's Director of Business Partners and CEO of Artifcts, and Kate Hufnagel of The Digital Wrangler both gave informative presentations to the chapter on digital privacy and digital security. They said that small businesses are most at risk for cybercrimes and they shared best practices. But often there’s a disconnect between knowing what to do and taking action.
Until now. In this hands-on workshop, led by Jessie Willis, a member of the technology office for the US Senate, participants will enhance their digital hygiene and security. Not only will they learn the how and why, but will also spend time actually following through on the following three areas:
Digital Hygiene
- How digital clutter impacts how well your devices function and how to clear digital clutter
- Making sure your computers are up to date and why that’s important
- Why folder clutter is a bad thing and how to correct it
Digital Security
- All about hotspots and public WiFi, and how to protect your devices on public networks
- Biometrics: Why they are important to use and how to set up an alternate appearance
- Identity protection: The importance of watching credit reports and how to set up alerts from banks and other institutions
- Using common sense
Digital Clutter:
- Deleting unused apps
- Unsubscribing from unwanted sources of emails and alerts
- Deleting duplicative or outdated photos
- Managing digital alerts and notifications
